I booked my flights the following day. I slept on the decision. I dreamed of Jeremy that night for the first time since the accident. I don’t remember the dream’s details, but I woke up feeling at peace. I know that he would want me to take this trip.

I texted Rachel my decision. She was supportive of the idea. We texted a few hotel options back and forth and picked one. I sent her my itinerary, and she researched some local sites for me to visit.

I told my boss I was taking a few extra days off. He seemed happy that I was finally taking some time for myself.

The flight to Coral Cove was pleasant. The rental car experience was smoother than I have ever experienced. The time from check-in to my driving away was less than twenty minutes. It almost felt illegal how quick it went.

While driving to the hotel, I cracked the window and let the fresh air wash over me. Never in my memory have I experienced a dewy sweetness in the air. I’ve read about it before in books, but here I was sipping it in. I felt instantly calm and at ease in Coral Cove.

It was intoxicating.

The woman at the hotel who checked me in was friendly and welcoming. She asked where I was from and about things I’d like to see while in town, and she even gave me coupons for businesses around town. It would have felt creepy anywhere else, but in Coral Cove, it felt different.

In my room, I opened the sliding door to the balcony and drank in more of the sea air.

I walked around the central part of town as darkness fell. It was getting late. Most of the shops were shutting down. String lights crisscrossed the street, giving the entire street a warm glow. I had dinner at a cute little café recommended by the woman at the hotel. I used a twenty-five percent off coupon, too.

Up ahead, I saw a sign for a bookstore, Spellbound Stories. I approached the door and noticed it was closing in fifteen minutes. I didn’t want to be that guy. I’ve never spent just fifteen minutes in a bookstore.

I peeked in from the windows and looked at all the goodies. It was fantasy themed and an absolute a gem. I saw their romance section, their LGBT section–which was nice to see in a small town, and my favorite historical fiction section. There was a magical fantasy element to the whole place. I would come back the next day and spend a couple hours here.

I looked towards the front register and saw the cutest guy I’d ever seen working behind the desk. He was checking out a customer and was clearly talking about what they were buying. He looked so passionate about his books. It made me smile.

I looked down at his chest; he was wearing a thin t-shirt, and his nipples were protruding through. I could feel myself get stiff.

He had a very distinct and strong jawline.
